ESSENTIAL QUESTION:
OVERVIEW:
Through this performance task, you will demonstrate an understanding of concepts associated with science, technology, mathematics, and social studies. You will need to use critical thinking, problem-solving skills and systems thinking to develop a persuasive argument related to this task. The media resources will provide an overview of many of the critical factors to be considered. This task will require you to conduct and analyze research, make appropriate decisions based upon you findings, and communicate this data in words and images so that the audience can understand the potential benefits.
GOAL:
Based upon knowledge of the automobile industry, and the materials and supplies needed to support this industry, you will need to persuade an automobile manufacturer that your community is an ideal place to build a factory.
ROLE:You are the director of your community's chamber of commerce, and have been invited to present to a number of automakers that may be interested in building a factory within or near your community.
AUDIENCE:
Your audience is made up of administrators from a number of automobile manufacturers who are looking for a site for a new automobile manufacturing plant. The individuals invited to your presentation include human resources professionals, transportation coordinators, business managers, material scientists, logistics specialists and individuals who will assess the educational background of your community.
SITUATION:
Through research of the global automobile industry, the materials currently used, and potential future materials, develop a persuasive presentation that will encourage an automobile manufacturer to consider your community as a viable place to build a factory.

- Create a chart, table, or graph that compares two different materials (metal(s), plastic(s), etc.) that are often used in car manufacturing. Your finished product should compare the strength, weight, and cost of materials. You might also want to compare environmental concerns such as how the material relates to fuel efficiency, or whether the material is toxic in landfills. A last area of comparison to consider is where the material comes from and how far it needs to be shipped to reach your community.
